The first edition, third state of Ben-Hur by Lew Wallace.
Octavo, 552pp, 12pp ads. The third state binding, with a muted green pebbled cloth, beveled edges, and title in gilt on spine. Solid text block, light rubbing to edges of cloth, a near fine example. This is the third state of the first edition, containing the following points: an undated title page, pebbled cloth binding, and 12 pages of advertisements at rear. Although there is no date printed on the title page, this copy was published between 1881 and 1884, with two lines of text on the dedication and small changes to the books listed in the advertisements.
