Hubert Humphrey (1911-1978) served as the 38th Vice President of the United States, during the Johnson Administration. He was the Democratic Senator from Minnesota from 1949-1964, and again from 1971-1978. He was the Democratic nominee for president in 1968, losing to Richard Nixon. He was known as a staunch liberal in the United States Senate, but was admired by colleagues from across the political spectrum. He died from cancer in 1978.
