The first edition, first printing of Blood Meridian, inscribed by Cormac McCarthy.

Octavo, [9], 337pp. Red hardcover, cloth spine, title stamped in gilt. Stated “First Edition” with a full number line. This copy appears unread. Light dust remnant along top of text block, internally fine. Red ink mark near headband along top edge. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $17.95 on the front flap, photography by Mark Morrow on rear panel, touch of shelf wear, insignificant closed tear near head of spine on the rear panel, overall a bright, near fine example. Housed in custom black cloth clamshell.

Signed on the half-title: “For Gregory / All best wishes from your friend / Cormac.”

This copy is from the private collection of Gregory Amenoff, Professor Emeritus of Visual Arts at Columbia University. Amenoff was President of the National Academy of Design from 2001-2005 and a founding member of the CUE Art Foundation. A good friend of Professor Amenoff’s became close to Mr.McCarthy when he was living in El Paso. During visits to his friend to El Paso in the late 1980’s and early 1990″s Amenoff was introduced to Mr. McCarthy and had occasion to ask him if he could sign few of his most significant works, The books have been in his collection since then.
