Wallace Stevens (1879-1955) was an American modernist poet known for his complex and philosophical verse. He was recognized at the 1952 Columbia University Commencement with an Honorary Doctor of Letters alongside historian Daniel Mornet. Stevens later received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1955.
