Description
The first edition, first printing of Fear God and Take Your Own Part by Theodore Roosevelt, in the first state dust jacket.
Octavo, xvi, [13]-414pp, [2]. Red cloth, fine ribbing to covers, title in gilt on spine and front cover. The first printing, with no “Printed in the United States of America” statement on the copyright page. Numerous unopened leaves, this copy appears unread. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $1.50 retail price on the spine, touch of wear along top edge, a bright, fine example. Scarce in this condition. (Cole & Vail, A44b)
An exceptional copy.
The second edition of this work, which the publisher considered the “cheap version,” cannibalized the sales of the first printing and is much more common. It contains a new preface and 100,000 copies were printed for $0.50 per copy. (Cole & Vail, A44c)
