The first American translation of From The Earth To The Moon was published in Newark as an 88 page paperback edition, but only one copy is known. This copy is the first combined American edition and first illustrated edition of the work, published on November 22, 1873. The 80 illustrations are from the original French edition, by Bayard, de Montaut, and de Neuville. From the Earth to the Moon (De la Terre à la Lune) was first published in serialized form in the French magazine Journal des débats politiques et littéraires from September 14 to October 14, 1865. It was subsequently released as a complete novel by the Parisian publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel in the same year.
