The deluxe limited edition of In Darkest Africa, one of 250 copies, signed by Henry M. Stanley.

Quarto (two volumes), xv, [1], 529pp, [4] (Vol.1), xv, [1], 472pp, [3]. Brown morocco spine, raised bands, title in gilt on spine, vellum cover with title and flag in gilt. Rubbing to vellum boards, more notable on cover of Volume I. Silk bookmarks in both volumes. Top edge gilt, uncut edges.

Both volumes complete with photogravure frontispiece portraits, 4 Maps and plans, 3 of which are folding color maps, with the larger two being backed with linen. Includes 36 full page illustrations mounted on India paper and six etchings printed in Sepia by M.G. Montbard, all signed in pencil by the artist, which is unique to this edition. Folding printed table in Volume II. Variable foxing and toning to plates, maps both with light foxing. (Hosken, 189)

Sir Henry Stanley was famous for his explorations of central Africa. This book recounts his journey to relieve Emin Pasha, the besieged Governor of Equatoria. This book was an international best seller, selling 150,000 copies shortly after publication in 1890.
