The majority of Carl Sagan’s career was spent researching the cosmos, with a focus on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI). Intelligent Life in the Universe builds on a previous publication by Shklovskii, translated to English for the first time here as “Universe, Life, Mind”. The book contains Shklovskii’s research and analysis, additional commentary by Sagan, and original figures by Sagan. The two men collaborated entirely by mail between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
