Description

Reprint edition of Lafitte the Pirate by Lyle Saxon.

Octavo, xiv, 306pp, [1]. Red hardcover, black cloth spine, title in gilt on spine. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Solid text block, all thirty-four listed illustrations present, a fine example. In publisher’s dust jacket, price-clipped, price scratched out on back flap but retail price $12.50 still visible, a touch of sunning to spine, a near fine example.

Jean Lafitte (1780-1823) and his brother Pierre smuggled and sold goods in New Orleans until the Embargo Act of 1807 when they moved to an island off the coast of Louisiana. The operation was invaded in 1814, but the Lafittes received a pardon by helping Andrew Jackson defend New Orleans during the War of 1812.
