Mother Teresa (1910-1997), born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Yugoslavia (now North Macedonia)-was a Roman Catholic nun and missionary who founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. She dedicated her life to serving the poor, sick, and dying, particularly in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. Her work gained international recognition, earning her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Mother Teresa was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta by the Catholic Church in 2016.
