From a deluxe limited edition of 1000 signed copies, this is number Q4, signed by Richard Byrd and with “Presentation Copy” noted below the limitation. Includes a note to Admiral Byrd on Mayflower Hotel stationery, referencing the publisher, Melville Minton and asking for a personalized inscription in the book.

Richard E. Byrd was an American naval officer and polar explorer. He was known for being the first explorer to reach the North Pole and South Pole by air, but those claims are disputed.
