Description
Signed copy of Memorias La Segunda Guerra Mundial [The Second World War], by Winston S. Churchill. A complete set of salesman’s samples, known as fasciculos, complete in 114 individual publications. This set was signed and dated by Winston S. Churchill in Volume I, Fasciculo 1.
Octavo, [114 parts]. Publisher’s original wrappers, each part with loose leaf, uncut samples from the final text. All with bright original wrappers, some individual numbers with more wear, faint smell of cigar smoke throughout the set. This complete set covers the first 10 volumes of Memorias La Segunda Guerra Mundial by Winston S. Churchill, with no fasciculos being produced for the final two postwar volumes, titled Triunfo y Tragedia: La Marea de la Victoria and El Telón de Acero. (Woods A123a) (Cohen A240.1[I] – Translations). Each volume was translated and edited by Jose Janes. Each fasciculo, or “part issue,” was a token which could be redeemed towards the purchase of the complete set. Only a handful of complete sets still remain, with exceptional provenance.
From the private library of Emery Reves, the literary agent for Winston Churchill. Reves was instrumental in negotiating the international publication rights for The Second World War, having worked with Churchill prior to his time as Prime Minister. The editor of this international edition, Jose Janes, was early to sign with Reves and was given considerable freedom in the translation and editorial process.
