In the publisher’s later state dust jacket, $3.25 on front flap, bright illustrations, closed tear with archival tissue repair on spine, a few short closed tears along edges, an attractive copy.
Signed by the author on the copyright page: “Greetings to Alice _, from Virginia Lee Burton.”
The first printing is distinguished by a few features, including the publication date (1939) on the title page and no mention of later dates on the copyright page. The publisher’s first state jacket has a retail price of $1.50 on the front flap and an advertisement for “Choo Choo” on the rear flap.
