This novel was one of three works by Clement, which were first serialized in Astounding Science Fiction magazine [Needle (1950), Iceworld (1953) and Mission of Gravity (1954)]. Three sequels to Mission of Gravity were published, a novel titled Star Light (1970), a short story in 1973 called “Lecture Demonstration” and a short story in 2000 titled “Under.” Hal Clement was inducted into the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 1998. This novel was nominated for a “Retro-Hugo” Award in 1954.
