The Author’s Limited Edition of Mr. Citizen, inscribed by President Harry Truman to the eldest daughter of President Franklin Roosevelt, Mrs. Anna Roosevelt Halsted.

Octavo, 315pp. Brown morocco spine, title in gilt on spine over black label. Top edge dyed pink. Includes the publisher’s scarce wax paper dust jacket, often lost. Housed in the publisher’s slipcase, photographic label on side, light shelf wear. Includes 16 halftone photographic plates (Burns, 0017) This is the Author’s Edition of Mr. Citizen, which was specially produced by Doubleday for the personal use of President Truman.

Inscribed on the half title: “To Mrs. Anna Roosevelt Halsted from Harry Truman, in appreciation of her support and friendship. Independence. Sept. 29, 1960.”

Anna Roosevelt Halsted (1906-1975) was the eldest daughter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. During her father’s presidency, she filled in for her frequently traveling mother and acted as her father’s personal assistant, handling correspondence, and managing administrative tasks. Following her father?s death, she worked as an author, speaker, and advocate for women?s civil rights. Anna Roosevelt served as a delegate to the United Nations, chairing the organization’s Commission on Human Rights. She died on December 1, 1975.
