Description

Inscribed copy of My World Of Reality by Dr. Hildrus A. Poindexter to Dr. H. Naylor Fitzhugh, one of the first black graduates from Harvard Business School and the “Dean of Black Business.”

Octavo, vii, 342pp. Gray cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. Full number line on copyright page. Light offsetting to endpapers where dust jacket laid, otherwise a fine example. Errata page tipped into appendix between pages 292-293. In the publisher’s very good dust jacket, retail price on front flap, light wear to both edges, short closed tears along bottom edge, previously reinforced on verso with tape, bright illustrations. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “Dr. and Mrs. H. Naylor Fitzhugh / You are the type of folk I like / the world is better because you are / a part of it / May your children bring you / only Joy and Happiness / My salute to you / Hildrus M. Poindexter / July 2, 1978.”

The recipient of this book, Dr. H. Naylor Fitzhugh (1909-1992) was one of the first African-American graduates from Harvard Business School. After graduation, he returned to his native Washington DC to teach business and marketing at Howard University. In 1965, he accepted a position with Pepsi-Cola Company to “target market” to the African-American community, a concept which he developed. In 1974 he was selected as the “Dean of Black Business” by Black Enterprise magazine and later received a Distinguished Service Award from Harvard University in 1987. Fitzhugh died in 1992 in New York.
