In 2002, President Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in promoting peaceful conflict resolution, democracy, and human rights, particularly through his work with the Carter Center, which he established in 1982. The Nobel Committee highlighted his pivotal role in the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt in 1978, his election monitoring in numerous countries, and his mediation in international conflicts. Carter became the first former U.S. President to receive the Nobel Peace Prize since 1929, with the award also reflecting his criticism of unilateral U.S. foreign policies and his advocacy for multilateral approaches to global issues.
