Small octavo, iv, 5-47pp. Brown cloth, title in gilt on front cover. Solid text block, bumped corners, some loss to spine. Previous ownership bookplate to front endpaper, signed by the former owner on the front free endpaper. Faint foxing to title page, text otherwise fine. Includes a color lithographed folding map of the Battlefield of Gettysburg, light wear to one corner and a single short closed tear. (Sabin 35502) A clear, near fine example.
Bernard Christian Steiner (1867-1926) was a librarian and professor in the greater Baltimore area. Steiner followed in the footsteps of his father as the librarian of Enoch Pratt Free Library of Baltimore, working there for the duration of his life. During his tenure, Steiner increased the number of branches from six to twenty-five.
