This copy is signed by Richard “Dick” Thelen, the last Michigan survivor of the USS Indianapolis, who died in 2021 at the age of 94. Thelen joined the Navy at age 17 after graduating from High School. He served aboard the USS Indianapolis as a gunner’s mate when, on July 30th, 1945, the ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine torpedo.
