Octavo, [two volumes], xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spines, decorative gilt illustration on covers, shelf wear to tips of spines. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume. Period ownership inscription dated 1889 in Volume I, bookplate in Volume II. Solid text block in both volumes. Multiple maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. (Nevins II, p. 88) Clean pages, bright illustrations, a very good example.

Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
