Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume. Solid text block in both volumes, front hinge starting in Volume II. Bookplate affixed to front endpaper of both volumes. Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
