Octavo, [two volumes], xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spines, decorative gilt illustration on covers, shelf wear to tips of spines, two blemishes to spine of Volume I. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume. Solid text block in both volumes, front hinge starting in Volume II. Bookplate affixed to front endpaper of both volumes. Multiple fold-out maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. (Nevins II: 88) Clean pages, bright illustrations, a near fine example.

Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
