Small octavo, ix, [4], 14-167pp, [3]. Three-quarter green morocco, title in gilt on spine with decorative bands. Marbled paper-covered boards, matching marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. This printing is not listed in BAL. Solid text block, with light rubbing to corners and covers. A near fine copy. Previous ownership bookplate of Andrew Christian Zabriskie affixed to front endpaper.

The Pike County Ballads is a compilation of six of Hay’s poems originally published in 1871, including “Jim Bludso” and “Little Breeches.” The previous owner, Andrew Christian Zabriskie, was a prominent New York City aristocrat and real estate investor.
