In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.50 retail price on front flap, faint points of shelf wear and soiling to panels, toning to verso. Illustrated jacket by Andy Warhol, front panel decorated with two pistols, additional illustrations to rear panel. A unique copy.
Andy Warhol is credited for his work with a misspelled last name, stating “Jacket design by Andy Warhaw” on the front flap. The Pistols for Two cover was his first published dust jacket design, quickly followed by a deal with New Directions Publishing for “Three Novels: Vainglory, Inclinations, Caprice” by Ronald Firbank. Warhol was a notable illustrator in the 1950s before his full rise to fame in the pop-art style of the 1960s. He illustrated at least 6 other dust jackets, making this example a scarce piece in his prolific career.
