Stanley McChrystal is a retired four-star general in the United States Army who served from 1976 to 2010. He was the commander of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) from 2003 to 2008, overseeing operations against al-Qaeda in Iraq. In 2009, he was appointed as the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan but resigned in 2010 after a controversial Rolling Stone article. McChrystal is known for pioneering counterinsurgency strategies and leading special operations forces. After retiring, he founded the McChrystal Group, a leadership consulting firm, and has authored several books on leadership and strategy.
