Octavo, 82pp. White vellum, title in gilt with presidential seal and coloring. Housed in glassine jacket. In fine condition. This is Volume II, with Volume I being published in 1971. These two works were compiled into a book titled Excerpts from the Vienna Diaries of Ambassador John Portner Humes. Inscribed by the author: “For General Brent Scowcroft, with happy recollections of our cooperation in Salzburg. John Humes.”
Brent Scowcroft served as the National Security Advisor for President Gerald R. Ford and President George H.W. Bush. After leaving the Bush administration, he wrote A World Transformed with President George H.W. Bush, which was an insiders’ account of the White House after the fall of the Soviet Union. In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed Scowcroft the Chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board, where he found himself at odds with Vice President Cheney on the Iraq Invasion. In 2008, he published America and the World: Conversations on the Future of American Foreign Policy, along with Zbigniew Brzezinski.
