Professor Jeffrey Hart (1931-2019) was a prolific conservative author and professor of English literature at Dartmouth. After working for the 1968 presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan, Hart was recruited to write speeches for the Nixon campaign and White House. He later wrote for the National Review, where Hart became “one of the most influential writers for approaching half a century.” (Fowler, National Review). His books include: “When the Going Was Good! American Life in the Fifties” (1982); “Smiling Through the Cultural Catastrophe: Toward the Revival of Higher Education” (2001); and “The Making of the American Conservative Mind: National Review and Its Times” (2005).
