The Wise Sanitarium was a small rural hospital where Lillian G. Carter was trained as a nurse. On the night of October 1, 1924, Lillian Carter arrived at the hospital for the birth of her eldest son, Jimmy Carter. After sitting vacant from 1936-1956, the Wise Sanitarium was sold to E.W. Barber of Sharon, GA, who pledged to invest $35,000 to modernize the facility. The name was changed to the Lillian G. Carter Health and Rehabilitation Center in 2003.
