Octavo, 207pp. Black hardcover, title in gilt on black cloth spine. Unopened along fore edge, not previously read. Solid text block, light wear along spine, a near fine example. (Edelstein A18) (Morse A17) Includes correspondence between Holly Stevens, the author’s daughter, and New York booksellers, Black Sun Books. Stevens purchased the copy on July 23, 1971 for $100 and had it shipped to her home in Hamden, Connecticut.
This compilation of Selected Poems by Wallace Stevens, created by The Fortune Press in 1952, was not authorized by Steven’s sole publisher, Alfred A. Knopf. All copies were destroyed with the exception of a few sent to reviewers. An authorized copy was published by Faber and Faber was released the following year, in 1953. (Morse A17, A18)
