Octavo, xvi, 348pp. Quarter blue cloth binding, blue paper boards, title and rule stamped in gilt. Complete with 58 illustrations and fold-out map at rear. Lacking the publisher’s original glassine jacket and slipcase. Includes two cloth patches from the plane used to fly over the North Pole. From the library of noted Richmond book collector, Frank G. Christian, with his bookplate inside. From a limited edition of 500 copies signed by Byrd and the publisher, this being number 449. A fine example.

Skyward is the first book by polar explorer Richard Byrd, where he details his 1928-1930 expedition to Antarctica, his flights to the North Pole and his flights across the Atlantic Ocean. His next book, Little America, published in 1930, offers an official account of his exploration of the Antarctic and his flight to the South Pole. His final book, Alone, published in 1938, details his time at Bolling Advance Base, a weather station in Antarctica.
