First edition of Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Octavo, iv, 316pp, [12pp ads]. Brown cloth, gilt title on spine, embossed cover. Solid text block, wear to corners, a near fine example. Expert restoration to spine and hinges. Contains first printing points, notably “dove” in the place of “dived” on page 96, line 7. The first printing was issued in October of 1855, with 5250 copies printed. (BAL 12112) Housed in a custom half-morocco clamshell case, title in gilt on spine, lined with felt.
