Color photograph, white matte background. Full piece measures 18″ x 15″. Ownership label from “U.S. Rep., R.L. Mazzoli” on verso. Bumped edges, dampstain along left border, extraneous black pen mark through lower matte. Wear to verso, previously framed. This photograph is an ideal candidate for professional framing. This photograph was taken in February, 1982, by Robert S. Oakes of the National Geographic Society, a few months after the confirmation of the first woman on the Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor.

Includes the signatures of the following justices: John Paul Stevens, Thurgood Marshall, William H. Rehnquist, Harry A. Blackmun, William J. Brennan, Jr., Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, and Justices Sandra Day O’Connor, and Lewis F. Powell, Jr.

From the estate of Rep. Romano L. Mazzoli (1932 – 2022), a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Kentucky’s 3rd district from 1971 to 1995. Mazzoli co-authored the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act. This legislation aimed to curb illegal immigration by strengthening border security and establishing penalties for employers who hire undocumented workers. Mazzoli earned his law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law in 1960 and practiced law before entering politics.
