General Norman Schwarzkopf (1934-2012) was the commander of all coalition forces in the Persian Gulf War. Schwarzkopf led Operation Desert Storm, which consisted of an extended air campaign and later ground forces who successfully liberated Kuwait in a 100-hour offensive. In retirement he received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, the only person to hold this honor from all four branches.
