Bumped top edge. Publishers dust jacket, near fine, light wear at edges, bright illustrations on spine. Signed on front free endpaper by Cardinal Spellman to the President of Guatemala, Miguel Ydigoras Fuentes, with the following inscription: “President and Mrs.ydigoras, with happy and grateful memories of your kindness on the occasion of the wonderful Encaustic Congress in Guatemala, devotedly, F. Cardinal Spellman.” Additional note stating: “Recibido Abril 19, 1962 por MYF.”
Comments: General Ydigoras Fuentes served as President of Guatemala from 1958-1963. He was democratically elected but faced major government corruption scandals and was eventually overthrown in 1963. Cardinal Francis Spellman served as the Archbishop of New York, where he forced close relations with President Roosevelt. He later instituted the Al Smith dinner, which continues to this day.
