Comments: Long before the advent of Walmart, two Ohio State University Professors analyzed the economic impact from chain stores on local economies. The dust jacket prefaces the conclusion that chain stores create “deep disturbances” in the “business, economic and social systems” of the late 1930s. This timely work correctly predicted the lasting financial impact of chain stores on the economic health of the United States and other global economies.
