Description
Scarce first edition, first state binding of The Firm by John Grisham.
Octavo, 421pp. Hardcover, title in gilt on cloth spine. Stated “March 1991… First Edition” on copyright page with full number line. This copy is the first state binding, with light green-gray boards, black cloth spine, and rich gold endpapers. Solid text block, a fine example. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $19.95 retail price, faint transference and toning to verso of spine. A scarce first state binding of the book that launched the literary career of John Grisham.
The second state of this book features the same dark spine, but has navy paper boards in the place of the green-gray seen here. Second state copies also have dull beige endpapers. Due to the popularity of the novel upon its release, a Book Club Edition was released shortly after the first printing, but features “April 1991” on the copyright page and all-black paper boards.
