Octavo, viii, [2], 133pp. Publisher’s blue cloth, title stamped on spine. Second printing, stated on copyright page. Solid text block, light wear to spine tips and corners, marks on covers. Clean leaves. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $1.50 retail price on front flap, light wear, rubbing to spine tips and corners, a very good example. This copy is from the library of Frank M. Arnold, Jr. Includes a laid-in postcard addressed and inscribed by C.S. Lewis to Arnold, stating: “1 Nov / Many thanks. I was ill, otherwise / I’d write a proper letter / C.S. Lewis.” Postmarked “Oxford / 1 Nov 1961.”
Lieutenant Colonel Frank M. Arnold, Jr. served as Chaplain in the United States Air Force for twenty-three years before passing in 1965. He was one of the Air Force’s most decorated chaplains. His service took him to a number of different countries, including Germany, France, and Turkey. Arnold was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi at the time he received the postcard from Lewis.
