Comments: Senator Estes Kefauver represented the state of Tennessee as a member of the House of Representatives (1939-1949) and the Senate (1949-1963). His public pursuit of organized crime in the 1950’s built his national profile. He was nominated by the democratic party to be to be Adlai Stevenson’s running mate for the 1956 presidential election, after a surge in support for John F. Kennedy. He passed away in 1963.
