Description

Quarto, [unpaginated]. Maroon cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Fading to spine and wear at edges. Maroon end papers. Includes 101 mounted plates from the royal art collection, housed at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Hampton Court. The illustrations were selected by Sir Lionel Cust, the director of the National Portrait Gallery from 1895-1909, before his death in 1929. The book is inscribed by King George V and Queen Consort Mary with the following inscription: “To Admiral H.H. Campbell from George R + Mary R. Sandringhouse / Christmas / 1930.” A scarce signed work from the reigning monarch.

Comments: The book is inscribed to Admiral Henry Hervey Campbell, an officer in the Royal Navy and Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V.
