Description

First edition, first printing of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, a near fine example.

Octavo, 140pp. Light blue cloth binding with title in silver on spine. First edition with Scribner’s “A” on copyright page. Light transerrance to endpapers from publisher’s glue, internally clean. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $3.00 on front flap, no mention of Nobel Prize on rear panel, touch of sunning to top quarter of spine, a bright example. Housed in custom clamshell case, blue cloth, title in gilt over blue leather label. (Hanneman 24a).

This book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and is considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century.
