First edition, first printing of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

Octavo, 140pp. Light blue cloth binding with title in silver on spine. First edition with Scribner’s “A” on copyright page. Free of marks or notations. Faint offsetting to spine from dust jacket. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $3.00 on front flap, with no mention of Nobel Prize on the rear panel. A very good example, with a closed tear along heel of spine, light sunning to top quarter of spine, toning to spine, a faint splash mark to verso at the lower corner of rear flap, a bright, attractive example. Housed in custom clamshell case, blue cloth, title in gilt over blue leather label. (Hanneman 24a).

This book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and is considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century.
