The Pelican Brief is a legal thriller novel written by John Grisham. The story revolves around a young law student named Darby Shaw, who writes a legal brief that speculates about the motive behind the assassination of two Supreme Court justices. Her brief becomes known as “The Pelican Brief,” and when it reaches the right people, sets off a chain of events that put her life in danger. The book was later adapted into a successful film of the same name in 1993, directed by Alan J. Pakula and starring Julia Roberts as Darby Shaw and Denzel Washington as Gray Grantham.
