The first edition of The Price of Freedom: Speeches and Addresses by Calvin Coolidge, inscribed the day he was nominated for the Republican presidential ticket in 1924.
Octavo, [12], 420pp, [2]. Blue cloth, title stamped in gilt. The first printing, with “Published March, 1924” stated on copyright page. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover. Solid text block. Faint dust remnant along top edge of text block, lightly bumped corners on the front panel. Lacking the publisher’s scarce dust jacket. (Martin / Goehlert, 8035)
Bookplate affixed to the front pastedown, with a note in pencil from the recipient of this copy stating: “Inscribed by the President on the day he was nominated at Cleveland / June 1924 / S.W.J.”
This copy is inscribed to noted bibliophile and Lafayette scholar, Stuart Wells Jackson: “To Stuart W. Jackson / with regards / Calvin Coolidge.”
