Octavo, [two volumes], xxxi, [1], 258pp; [4], 259-516pp. Three-quarter green morocco, with green cloth-covered boards. Five raised bands, title in gilt on spine, with decorative gilt compartments. Top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Solid text blocks, light wear to corners and edges of spines. Remnants of a bookplate to the front free endpaper of each volume. Lacking one plate in Volume I, meant to be opposing Page 162. Features a frontispiece of The Witches, whose story is featured on Page 138.

The Satyricon is recognized as a “Roman novel,” blending prose and poetic verses, as well as serious and comical elements. It tells the adventures of Encolpius and his companion Giton, with glimpses into what life was like for the lower classes of the Roman Empire.
