This set, limited to 1000 copies, was created by the John Day Company to honor the eightieth birthday of Pearl S. Buck. All volumes are signed on a limitation page, with each volume numbered 113.

Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) wrote over 80 books, including novels, biographies, and children’s literature. Her most famous work, The Good Earth (1931), won the Pulitzer Prize and helped her become the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938.
