Shortly after the death of President John F. Kennedy, President Johnson asked Chief Justice Earl Warren to head a presidential commission investigating the assassination of the president. What was formally known as the President’s Commission quickly became known as the Warren Commission. The members of the committee were a bipartisan group from different government agencies, designed to avoid any appearance of a cover-up. The commission served from December 1963 until October 1964, concluding with the publication of this report. Mr. Warren advocated for more transparency in the final analysis but was rebuffed due to ongoing secret government actions. As a result, the lone gunman conclusion of the Warren Commission report was met with public skepticism.
