Signed on the front free endpaper: “To Mr. Carl Schlaet, With best wishes from David Rockefeller. Feb. 19, 1953.”
David Rockefeller (1915-2017) served as the chairman and CEO of Chase Manhattan Corporation. He was the grandson of Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller and the brother of New York Governor and U.S. Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. Carl Schlaet (1895-1953) was the son of Arnold Schlaet, one of the founders of the Texas Company, predecessor of Texaco, Inc.
