Octavo, 245pp. In the publisher’s original binding, purple pebbled cloth. Title in gilt on spine. Solid binding, cloth heavily sunned, bumps to corners, some wear through to boards along edges. Faint stain along bottom edge of text block, no impact to text itself.
George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a Scottish author who pioneered the genre of modern fantasy. Additionally, MacDonald was a mentor to Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll, who was inspired to pursue publication after hearing how much MacDonald’s children loved the story. Both the fantasy works and religious works by MacDonald are often cited as influential to numerous notable authors including C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Madeleine L’Engle.
