During the 1928 presidential campaign, Charles Lindbergh endorsed Herbert Hoover for president. This endorsement was significant due to Lindbergh’s national profile following his transatlantic flight. Lindbergh’s endorsement of Hoover is one of the early instances of a major celebrity figure playing a role in a presidential campaign. Lindbergh was mentioned in some publications as a likely vice presidential candidate for Hoover. Shortly after assuming the presidency, Hoover appointed Lindbergh to the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
