Small octavo, 208pp. Green leather, gilt title on spine, presidential seal in gilt on cover. All edges gilt. “Presidential Edition” is blacked out on title page, found only on presentation copies to White House notables. Housed in publisher’s gold clamshell box, plastic cover over top.
Signed by President Jimmy Carter with a full signature. Additional inscription: “To Caroline and Nelson Pierce, Best Wishes and Thanks for all you have done for us. Rosalynn Carter / Jimmy Carter 12-80.”
Nelson Pierce (1925-2014) and his wife, Caroline (1924-2019), both worked at the White House from the Kennedy administration until the Clinton administration. Nelson Pierce was a White House usher and Caroline worked for the White House Historical Association. Both were close to the first families, helping with daily tasks around the House and becoming friendly with the presidential children.
